Meet Rumor

For the past three years, Rumor has been busy being a therapy dog and a service dog. As a certified therapy dog, she helps teach humane education in classrooms, provides assistance to children who are developing their reading skills, and visits patients at Arrowhead Regional Hospital. Rumor is also a hypoglycemic alert dog. If her owner has had a drop in blood sugar, Rumor will alert to her.
Rumor enjoys all her many jobs! In class students learn how to care and be responsible for animals. Children develop a serious understanding that animals have feelings and how they are dependent upon us for their care. Students also learn how to be safe around animals.
As a reading assistance dog, her playful nature encourages students to relax as they practice reading. This calm time together helps build the reader’s confidence.
As a hypoglycemic alert service dog, Rumor primarily alerts to her owner. However, she has also alerted to teachers and students. She will nudge them, want to sit with them, and lean next to them. No one trained her to alert to people; she is a natural responder.
As a therapy dog and a service dog, Rumor knows verbal clues as well as hand signals. She will retrieve the phone, a leash or something as small as a dime. But no matter what the task, Rumor enjoys her jobs!
